Our History
Trinity
Assembly of God was born in the heart of God and has continually
grown as a result of a series of events that can only be
explained as miraculous.
A church birthed out of a revival, prayer and a passion for
souls.
Trinity’s history is quite unique. As people sought God, the answer
came by divine call upon a young man named Ralph Duncan, who with
his wife, Diane, moved to Decaturville in 1967 and began to fill
what they felt was an ultimatum from God himself.
Early services were
held in the community center called Davis Schoolhouse. From there the group
organized and moved to the American Legion building. As the small congregation grew, thoughts turned to purchasing
property and building a church.
Approximately five
acres of land was acquired on Highway 69 South in Decaturville and
it was there that the first building was erected. On August 1, 1969 the church
members moved into a building that housed Children’s’ Church, Sunday
School, Nursery, Library and Administrative offices. In
three years the members had outgrown the facility and consequently,
in December 1972, the congregation voted unanimously to begin
construction on the second sanctuary.
Rev. Duncan served as pastor for 18 years. From 1986 to
1992 Rev. D.L. Hudspeth and Rev. Billy McCarty, respectively, served
Trinity Assembly of God with distinction enriching the lives of
people with their unique gifts.
In 1993, Rev. and
Mrs. John Chase, responding to the sovereign direction of the Holy
Spirit, accepted Trinity's call to become its fourth pastor. Under
the visionary leadership of Pastor Chase, the congregation (again)
voted unanimously, in February 1996, to proceed with a proposal that
includes a 20 year footprint.
Construction of a new eight
hundred-seat sanctuary, educational facilities, administrative, and
choir suite were begun in June 1997. Upon completion of these
projects in March 1998, Rev. Gene Jackson, Superintendent of the
Tennessee District Assemblies of God and Rev. Thomas Trask, General
Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, conduct the dedicatory
services.
As we approach the future, we
affirm our commitment to boldly proclaim the Gospel of Christ
without apology. We determine to be a church in touch with the needs
of those we serve. We will endeavor to reach a broad spectrum of
people fulfilling the great Commission of Christ. It is our goal to
become a regional church, a church alive-a church worth the
drive.
It has been our
great joy and privilege to server our church and community through
the work and ministries of Trinity Assembly of God.
